After being suckered into watching a video from the happy birthday Karen thread, I noticed that one of the other video's they showed had a guy that looked like Btone. At least to me.
Just the face though as far as I know. ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8ogZ...eature=related

The problem with commending the officer in this case is that he is a complete tool bag who is having a bad day and taking it out on middleschool kids that won't/can't file a complaint against him and he knows that. Since when was such behavior worthy of commendation I'm not sure.
I have no problem with cops doing their job, even when that's telling kids to not skateboard somewhere. I have a problem with cops that lack the patience required to handle situations such kids skateboarding with headphones on, and believe they should probably quit disrespecting their own badge and their own department because obvious being a police officer is not for them. I'm sorry, but as a younger member of this board who has dealt with police officers of a similar type and mentality under even lesser circumstances, I'm siding with the "shitbag worthless punk-ass-bitch skateboarders". I stand by the fact that there are a lot of really good police officers, but there are also a lot of over cocky douche bag high school bully that decided they wanted to get a shiny badge and gun type as well. You sure as hell don't earn respect acting like that. Oh, and even the officer knows he's a toolbag because he asks about the camera being on.

I have NEVER EVER been fucked with by the police OTHER than once or twice when I deserved it. I still stand by the fact that if you simply don't act like a fucking douche then chances are you won't get fucked with. So if you have been fucked with then I am about 99.9995% sure you probably had a hand in the situation. And I still stand by the fact that those kids are fucking assholes who think that nobody can touch them and it is perfectly ok to mouth off and act hard because they are untouchable. They deserved what they got and I commend the officer for taking a hard approach with them. I hope the little fuck shit his pants when he got put on the ground. Serves the cocksucker right.

I've been on the cop-defending end of a few debates here. But in this case, I'm with the kids, (holy) Lewis (shit!), and SHOboy. I don't know when it became illegal to call an officer "Dude," but I'm pretty sure he's not entitled to physically take down a kid and steal his skateboard for that transgression. I also don't recall any laws against having a poor attitude (although I honestly didn't see that bad of an attitude - I think the kids were reacting to the asshatted behavior of the cop more than anything). This cop had a chance to just tell the kids about the regulation and ask them to leave, and instead he took the chance to bully four young, small teenagers around. As much as anything else, a major part of any cop's job is to build ties with the community he polices. Nothing else will get more compliance, more leads, and more buy-in. This guy is not only blowing it for himself, but for all his fellow officers. If I were another officer in his unit, I'd be tempted to arrange a code red for this jackass.
Edit: Drew, I've been fucked with by a cop to nearly this extent, and the onslaught came before he could even see who I was or talk to me. It's a long story, but suffice to say that I was anything but respectful, I was already a professional adult, and I had accidentally embarrassed him because he was driving like a complete tool and nearly totalled my car to begin the whole thing. He was vein-popping furious when he got to my car and started laying into me with profanity and threats to drag me out of the car and take me to jail. This was before video and camera phones became ubiquitous, and I truly believe that the only thing that saved my bacon that day was that another driver came up on the scene in the middle of his tirade. And those kids may in fact be assholes who think nobody can touch them or whatever, but again there is no law against that. Laws are written to enforce behavior, not thoughts.

First off - I never said there aren't shitty cops out there, or cops that have bad days. What I did say is that the overwhelming majority of people who have had multiple shit dealings with cops should look at themselves first before they get on the "cops are assholes" defensive.
Matt - Your story sucks and I am aware that that shit does happen. My point is that it just doesn't happen every day like *some people* would like us to believe. I'd also like to point out that the video doesn't start with the cop pulling up. It starts with the cop coming up the stairs approaching the kids. We haven't seen this situation from the beginning and since it was filmed by one of the kids I'd bet money on the fact that the reason why it starts when it does is because the kids laid some bullshit prior and it isn't conducive to their whining to leave that part in the video. Here is one of my stories. My father and I were in the store one day with a wholesaler. We heard a bang on the back door. I went to check it and the door wouldn't open. I pulled it closed and found a sheet of plywood wedged up against it. I pushed it out of the way through the little crack I could get my hand through and went out the door to find 2 skaters. One promptly asked me "what my fucking problem was". I told him that this is a fire door and if a marshall comes in and finds the door blocked shut I get fined. They thought that was funny at which point my 63 year old father comes out. One of the kids tells him it was good he showed up because I was about to get my ass beat. My father said "Who was going to beat his ass?" Well apparently the kids didn't like that so now they start mouthing off to him telling him to "step off or get on his knees and suck his dick". What the fuck is wrong with a kid to say something like that to a 63 year old man who asked a simple question? I walked towards them because I won't stand for some punk disrespecting my father. He picked up his board like he was going to swing it at me. I told him to hurry up and do it because I was calling the cops - which I did. At that point they rode away flicking us off and cursing us the whole time they were turning tail and running. I followed them around to the front of the shopping center on foot, saw them go up the street and then double back and go into the Food Lion. When the cops got there I took them in and pointed the kids out - who immediately started accusing me and my father of threatening to kill them. In the end the cop didn't do anything because, like Matt said, there is no law against them being jackasses. However I will commend an officer whenever he lets them know he isn't going to put up with their shit. This isn't the only time kids have been a problem in our shopping center either. Some other kids (May be some of the same ones even) blocked the back door to the bar next door and stole 12 cases of beer out of the cooler out back. We caught them too because their arrogance got the better of them and we ran them right to a cop.

You claiming that all skaters are punk kids out looking for trouble is every bit as ignorant as someone claiming every police officer is an asshole. How can you honestly say that this officer used his powers in the most effective manner? Throwing a 14 year old kid to the ground, attempting to steal his skateboard, threatening to smack him!? Come the fuck on. Once confronted, the kids didn't put up any sort of fight, yet this dipshit felt the need to act like a hardass to prove what? Uphold the law, sure, but do so in a professional and effective manner.

I guess the best way I can sum up my thoughts on this are as follows: however bad the kids' attitudes and respect level may be, this cop is an order of magnitude worse because he let the 14-year-olds show up his own lack of sense, security, and respect. Note to police: if you treat 14-year-olds worse than they treat you, then you're in the wrong profession.

HOWEVER - having dealt with many skaters and their pis-poor attitude I can say that from my perspective scaring the fuck out of them IS the most effective manner of dealing with them because they don't respond to anything else. I never said that what the cop did was right . . . but I understand.

It does not take a brilliant person to understand that his approach was not only inappropriate, but completely ineffective and contradictory to what he was trying to accomplish. I'm sure the kids will really look up to and respect law enforcement and 'the badge' now that they were strong-armed by this mouth breather. This kind of lack of professionalisms is what paints cops with a bad name. This guy is the epitome of the 'fat uneducated cop with the mirrored glasses' that departments nationwide have striven to erase from public perception. If this guy worked for me, he'd be lucky to just be suspended.

I know what commend means. I also looked at the definition and it doesn't stipulate between "right" and "wrong". You can commend someone on their actions regardless of whether they are "right" or not. Your definition #3 says "approve OR praise". Personally I do approve of a mouthy kid getting a little physical wood thrown his way. Is that right? Not necessarily - but I approve of it. Is it ok for a parent to spank their kids? To me it is but to plenty of parents it isn't. To me this is the same thing, just with a different authority figure.
I am not suggesting he receive a commendation. I do however commend him for doing something I have wanted to do many times. I know laying out a mouthy kid is wrong - but I still want to do it at least once a week. Look at it this way - suppose some sick fuck kidnaps one of your children and rapes them. You find the fucker and kill them. I'd commend you for ending the sick fuck's life - but that doesn't mean that taking his life was "right". I guess I just don't accept that "kids will be kids" and it is ok for them to be disresectful and obnoxious. Every one of us is in need of a good ass-kicking once in a while (Myself included). I don't believe teenagers are an exception to this.
