I figured it was old just based on the fact it was about looting, which (AFAIK) was only a problem back at the very beginning when the govt collapsed. Good to hear there was more to the story, too.

They stole wood, so we crush their car? It seems a little odd...more like an excuse to crush something, anything.

Maybe you should have read the link that was posted presenting the 'other side' of that story. Is it true? Who knows, but it does point out that what the narrator is telling you just might not be the whole story (or truth).

Here, I'll cut and paste it for you to make it easy!

Quote:
Well now people. Here is a man who was there firsthand to tell you the TRUTH of the situation. The location is a Mercedes parts warehouse in the Abu Ghraib section of Baghdad. Our mission at the time was to prevent looters from stealing car parts. We did daily patrols of the site and were flushing out the same looters. They had developed different systems of looting parts. They began using vehicles for theft and transport. We would check each vehicle on site
If they were full of stolen parts and repair kits they would be disabled. WE DID NOT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT FIREWOOD. We let them keep that. We were just as cold as them in the late winter/early spring of the desert nights, we understood completely. They were still stealing and bringing in vehicles even after we disabled all previous ones. From that point on we had begun a policy of "If you loot parts, your vehicle will be crushed" We had signs posted in both Eng and Arab reflect that on all gates
Whatever the narrator is saying is a complete load of bullshit...what he doesn't show you with the editing of the tape is the footage of the vehicle inspection and showing the slew of parts in the wagon trunk. This is another instance of "creative editing" and the media twisting the truth to promote their own agenda. Oh, and that vehicle was in no way, shape, or form a "cab." By previous Iraqi Laws, all cabs were registered, and had ORANGE PLATES AND FENDERS

The unit: 2/B/1/64/AR/3BDE(attached)/3ID(M)
It chills me to hear my former tank commander's voice, SSG Robert R. Byrd (the one lecturing about the child being in school)
I was the driver of the other tank that was on the location.
Now, LET THE TRUTH BE HEARD AND RUMORS/MISCONCEPTIONS BE DISEMINATED

Asssuming that the "other side" is the correct one, and that the soldiers were acting properly it's pretty disturbing that someone would try to turn the incident on it's head. Therein lies the problem with the video revolution - It's yet another medium that can be distorted.

Putting the combined brainpower to work on this one:

Somewhere out there is a video (on youtube or something similar) from a Cisco telconference. When Cisco bought WebEx there was a sales training teleconference to bring the sales staff up to speed on the new product. Well it seems that there was an outside sales guy who was on the road when the conf. was scheduled. He logged in from his hotel room. He didn't realize that his laptop webcam was active. He stripped naked and "took things in hand" during the conf.

The guy of course was fired, but I know some folks have seen the video.

Ha! Try splainin' that one to Dad, dumbass!

Reminds me of high school, driving from the school over to the practice soccer field there was a grass/dirt parking lot with a nice hump in the middle of it. A few of the guys with trucks were launching themselves off the hump one day, including a guy driving his Dad's Cherokee. He managed to break the front diff jumping his Dad's truck. Oops. Not quite as bad as rolling it, of course, but still, that's gonna be pretty hard to squirm your way out of. "No, Dad, I wasn't doing anything wrong at all. Just driving along and alluva sudden the front diff shattered!"

Reminds me of 15+ years ago when a buddy of mine in high school showed up to pick me up in his dads brand new Acura Legend LS (circa 90-91) and the first words out of his mouth were "This things got balls". 2 hours later, upside down in a ditch on the side of the road...........car wasnt even a week old.

Actually, I am more interested in the commentary of the rest of the folks on the video conference. Apparently everyone on the "call" was fully able to see what he was up to and were trying to get him to stop.

Aussie Beer ad. (little bit of history, Pure Blonde is the first "low carb" beer to really take off in Australia. Its outright a good beer though, the low carb is less of a selling point except for that low bloat factor..)

Amazing car. The first Ferrari outside perhaps the "specialty" F cars that could make me put a Ferrari flag in my garage and almost make me want to wear full red Puma gear in public. I want one . . .

Not to play safety-man but....when I hear a driver say that they are going for a hot lap in a car like the 430 and go flat out for a lap record (or at least their personal best) and they are not wearing even the least amount of safety gear, not even a simple helmet, I gotta wonder. Tiff may be one heck of a driver but even the best make a mistake or two every once in a while. One good "off" could make for a very bad day.

Normally, I would tend to agree with you. But being that he is "testing" a car for a video magazine, talking to camera, and driving a pre-production car, how hot was that lap really. I would be willing to wager he was no where near his limits and could probably knock a few seconds off his "best" lap if he properly suited up and Ferrari told him to release the hounds.

Despite their bent towards socialism, in most of Europe they don't make as much of an effort to protect the dumb (or unlucky) as we do. I remember being amazed that there were no guardrails on the leaning tower of Pisa. I asked an attendant why not. He looked at me incrediously and said something along the lines of "well if you're stupid enough to walk off the edge, we probably don't need you anyway".

Marketing is a SOB. Even though I knew to go with what my brain told me was going to be the safer car. I still picked the car that would have got me killed.

Search for Volvo, and got no results in the whole CC site and again in this thread. I hope this is not a Klink.

Fifth Gear Crash-test Volvo 940 estate vs Renault Modus

A bit of an eye opener regarding the older Volvo's. Then there is the Modus. Nothing but ugly but after this video I would seriously consider one.

First time I've seen that and although, yeah, you can see the result telegraphed a bit... it was nonetheless shocking to see the results!

Fifth Gear Crash-test Volvo 940 estate vs Renault Modus

A bit of an eye opener regarding the older Volvo's. Then there is the Modus. Nothing but ugly but after this video I would seriously consider one.

Did that volvo have an engine? What would happen if you crashed two of those little things into one another?

I thought something similar. If the Volvo had a transverse engine, then the results may have been different. Although back in the 80's and early 90's, Volvo was the big safety brand, so point taken that almost two decades later little cars can be made safer than their elder counterparts of similar size - and stuff.
