Bad accident at Barber

http://www.nbc13.com/vtm/news/local/...ts_park/73776/

Two people were killed in what may be described as a freak accident.

It happened about 10:15 a.m. CT today at Barber Motorsports Park.

A spokesperson for the Birmingham Police Department says a worker at the track noticed a dead bird on the track.

The person attempted to remove it off the track, when a motorcycle racer doing time trials struck the worker.

Both the racer and the worker were killed on the scene.

There’s no word on the identities of the victims.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't know why a corner worker would go onto a hot track, but the result sucks.
Sounds like a horrible, horrible story. To summarize the version posted in the thread linked below, the report is that a corner worker went onto hot track to remove "debris" (either a knee puck or a dead bird, depending on the source), slips on track, rider crests hill at +/- 100mph and center punches the corner worker. Both dead at the scene.
I was not there and do not personally know, to my knowledge, anyone who was there but the account linked below is from someone who was apparently right behind the incident. I am pulling the quoted text that I initially posted in case there is a change in the posting but will leave the link.
This is surely a tough time for two different families.
Thread responded to by a rider who was immediately behind the incident
Tekno Viking needs a lesson in conveying this type of story without sounding like a crass assfuck. "Got wasted" "Got destroyed" "Hope they televise my interview" - I want to slap him across the face with a mallet.
Really a horrible situation.
I have two friends racing down there in the same class as the rider that was in the accident. If I didn't break my clavicle at VIR, I would probably be down there racing this weekend.
I talked to them this morning just before gridding up for the enduro. Everyone is a bit shaken up. They said the track was green, there were no red flags out.
Normal procedure is for a debris flag (for small debris), and it's the riders job to get around the debris. We had a similar situation at other races this year but it was handled with the flags. Nobody ever tried to run out on the track before (at least to my knowledge). Typically serious/large debris they would red flag it, especially for a practice session (which is when the accident happened).
I'm not sure why the corner worker decided to run out on a hot track. There might be more to it, but as of now I don't have a whole lot of detail. I might hear more on Monday or Tuesday. I really don't want to speculate too much.
Thoughts and prayers to those that were lost, and their families.
Agreed, that is why I pulled it out of my post. Not saying his account of this are right or wrong, but his choice of words is a little difficult to understand considering the subject.
Agreed with all of that as well. It is a horrible situation that is difficult to understand exactly how it happened. I am stuck between curiosity about the situation (with the hope of keeping myself out of similar circumstances in the future) and a desire to just forget about it.
